Essential Advice For Selling a Home With Pets

Essential advice for selling a home with pets

They’re an important member of your family, giving you all so much joy. You can’t imagine your home without them. Pets are such a huge part of what makes your house your home, and we understand what they mean to you. We want to ensure that you achieve the best possible price for your property, and there are things you can do to help you to sell your home.

Cuteness doesn’t sell

When it comes to selling your home, pets can be a huge distraction, with their cute eyes staring at buyers as they walk around your home. As lovely as your pets are, you want your buyers completely focused on deciding if your house is the one for them. Even though we are nation of pet lovers, not everyone finds their charms irresistible and some buyers can be frightened of entering a home with pets. So how can you make your home appeal to every buyer?

Hide the pamper

We know your pets are probably pampered, from beds to toys, they may even have their own wardrobe, but why not? Although in your eyes these are essential items, to buyers they are clutter, so hide those collars, water bowls and treats away ahead of a viewing.

No one wants to see or smell a litter tray decorating a home whilst on a viewing. Odours can linger, especially on pet beds, so wash them before a viewing and only leave on show if they are attractive and don’t distract from the room’s décor.

Hairs in the detail

It’s only natural for your pet to shed hair; long or short, it can get everywhere, from carpets to sofas, to curtains. Even with regular cleaning, a layer of hair can remain. Non-pet owners will notice this immediately and will start to make negative assumptions about your home. Hair can also trigger allergies – having an allergic reaction to your house is not a great way to start a viewing or encourage a buyer to make an offer.

Before you place your home on the market, deep clean all your carpets and other furnishings where pet hair could have taken hold. Regular vacuuming and dusting will keep pet hair to a minimum, and try to do a quick once over before your next viewing.

Give a treat

You want buyers to be able to explore your property freely so they can start to imagine themselves living there. If a buyer is frightened, allergic or simply distracted or put off by your cute and furry friends running around, this isn’t going to happen.

You may think it excessive to remove your pets for a viewing, but would you rather a little inconvenience or an unhappy buyer?

Why not treat your beloved pet to a spa visit? Maybe you could go for a long walk whilst the viewing is taking place, or just pop around to a friend’s. Remember, the quicker we can sell your home, the sooner you can get back to some normality before your move.
